My Maine: Geese, Mud, and Light

December 08, 2019 by Anne Elliott in Inspiration, Research, Maine

I moved to Maine in 2015 and I’m still figuring the place out. These geese know it better than me. I don’t dare put Maine in my fiction yet, but I’m working up to it. In the meantime, I’ll share a little of my research. And by research, I mean walking. Walking is my favorite form of research. I’ve learned the best time to do it is on a cold day with a cloudy sky, low tide, at around 3:30 PM. At this latitude we have a long period of oblique light every morning and evening. All around turns to glitter. I don’t know if the geese care, but the people sure do.

Noise is by James Barr, produced in Tank Farm Studios, AKA our basement.
